Talisay to Privatize Garbage Collection
The Talisay City Council is set to tackle anew a bill which aims to privatize the city’s garbage collection.
Proponent City Councilor Bernard Odilao, who chairs the council committee on Environment, said he hopes to have this proposed ordinance approved before his term ends on June 30. Odilao is on his third and final term.
Odilao said a private firm EVO ventures Inc., which specializes in solid waste management, has proposed to Mayor Socrates Fernandez to take care of the city’s waste, but for a fee.
For the moment, the city spends millions annually for its garbage collection, and Odilao said if the city would privatize it it would not
only save a certain amount, but be free of the hassle associated with the daily garbage collection being one of its major problems.
