Talisay Opens Pharmacy
The Talisay City government on Monday opened its own pharmacy where its indigent constituents can avail free medicine.
Dubbed as “indigent pharmacy” Talisay City Mayor Johnny delos Reyes said this new project will boost his government’s health care
programs by giving free medicine to the poorest of the poor, and at the same time save the city funds.
The Mayor said he had this project worked out after noticing that purchasing medicine from private stores cost thousands of pesos of taxpayers’ money. He said the past administration used to tie up with private drug stores and spend at least P200,000 per month on medicines.
But he said, the city could save on cost if it has its own pharmacy of which products are bought from government agencies for a cheaper price, and it was exactly what the City Hall did.
Delos Reyes said the process of availing of the free medicine has also been made easier. He explained an indigent patient will only have to present his prescription and a barangay certificate to the City Social Welfare Office where his request will be evaluated.
From there, he will be directed to the pharmacy where he can get the medicine, he said.
