Talisay City to Conduct a Monthly River Clean-up
The City Government of Talisay will coordinate and partner up with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to conduct a monthly river clean-up drive to avoid floods and preserve the environment.
It was known that one the of top priorities of upcoming Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas is to solve the city’s problem on garbage and flood.
The “waist-level” flood that happened last week in Barangay Bulacao triggered Gullas to strengthen its activities on the environment preservation.
Talisay City’s Executive Secretary Dr. Jomar Rubio said that Gullas will mandate all concerned authorities to conduct a monthly river clean-up drive since it is also their social responsibility as a public servant.
Rubio added, that the city will be also conducting a coastal clean-up drive every 3 months.
“Kaning sa coastal, pwede ra siya every 3 months kay ang basura sa coastal kasagaran maanod man gyud na gikan sa sapa (Coastal clean-up drive can be conducted every 3 months since garbage in the coastal area are coming from the rivers),” Rubio said.
Meanwhile, Gullas also called out every barangay officials to conduct a specific activity in the barangay to conduct various lessons to its people that irresponsible disposal of garbage can bring negative effects on the environment and to them as a citizen. (MLC)
