Talisay City to Buy New Bikes, Assault Rifles for SWAT Team
(PNA) — Talisay City Mayor Johnny De los Reyes has approved the request of the Talisay City Council to buy new motorcycles and short-assault rifles for the city’s elite Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
Talisay City Councilors Danilo Caballero and Edward Alesna said the purchase of new equipment will improve the capability of the SWAT team in responding to crime incidents.
The motorcycles will also make the city’s SWAT team highly mobile.
De los Reyes earlier said the activation of the SWAT in the city could boost the trust and confidence of investors knowing that they are protected well by the police.
De los Reyes said they spent an estimated amount of P200,000 for the SWAT team’s uniforms alone.
They are also in the process of acquiring the team’s weapons and other equipment.
Talisay City is one the local government units in Cebu which have their own SWAT teams.
Among them are the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Carcar and Naga. (PNA) LAP/EB
