The Talisay City government can possibly appoint anybody to lead the Talisay City College (TCC) but they have to sustain the monthly honorarium of the controversial TCC president Paulus Cañete until December 2014.

Cañete has a valid contract from February 3, 2014 up to December of same year.

“They can not easily scratch me as a TCC president because of my valid contract until December”, Cañete said.

Cañete, who was the guest-panelist of PAPI Cebu’s ‘Tapok-Tapok’ media forum last week, said that once he is terminated without his consent,he is ready to sue the City administration.

The controversy started when Talisay Mayor Johny delos Reyes appointed Cañete as TCC president without the permission of the school’s board of trustees.

With TCC having a concurrent president, the school administration is facing a problem on who between Cañete and TCC existing president Richard Bacaltos has the valid right to hold the post.

The TCC board of trustees remained in favor of Bacaltos while mayor JVR and few of the councilors supported Cañete.

Cañete, who did not apply on the said position, held on to his function and created some changes in the school’s administration, while Bacaltos contract as the TCC president remained active.

The college two commencement rites last March this year.

After the two ceremonies, the TCC board of trustees again took up the controversial issue regarding the leadership issue of TCC and Cañete asked the school administration to allow him and Bacaltos shy away from the issue to give the school board a free hand to find another school president.

Because of his existing contract, Cañete may continue to receive his monthly honorarium even the local government has another appointee to the said position.
