Talisay Celebrates 69th Landing Anniversary
Talisay City on Wednesday morning commemorated the 69th anniversary of the landing of the American and Filipino forces on its shores in Barangay Poblacion.
The event was attended by big wigs of the military, city hall officials headed by Mayor Johnny V. delos Reyes, representatives of Japan and America, war veterans and students.
In her speech, Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale reminded those who came that there are still “many simple wars” that they must continue fighting.
“Sa mga batan-on while we are not privileged to fight the war, I would like to remind them there are so many wars to be fought in this modern day and age. Alang namo sa gobyerno who are still fighting against corruption…And kamong mga taga Talisay, who are fighting simple wards like being good citizens,” Magpale said.
The event started with a holy mass and then a parade. A short program, in which included the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the landing marker, followed.
After the series of speeches, the reenactment of the war that happened 69 years ago was played at the Poblacion beach. It was participated by the Philippine Navy men and students from the Talisay City College.
