Taiyo Yuden Conducts Annual Mangrove Planting And Coastal Clean-Up
In partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), employee volunteers of Taiyo Yuden (Philippines), Inc. recently planted 2,500 miapi (Avicennia alba) mangrove seedlings at Barangay Calero in Liloan, Cebu. Leading the employees is the company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Management Representative Yu Mikami, who also involved his team in conducting a coastal clean-up in the area. Taiyo Yuden (Philippines) is one of PBSP’s partners in its watershed management program since 2008. Through the partnership, the company has provided two potable water systems on Balamban and Olango Island, rehabilitated 28 hectares of forest areas in the Cebu Hillylands, provided an abaca plantation to upland farmers, and reforested eight mangrove areas on Olango and Daanbantayan, Cebu.
Aside from coastal rehabilitation, the company also plans to set up an arboretum on the Cebu Hillylands this year as part of its long-term sustainable watershed management program with PBSP.
