Tail-End of Cold Front Brings Rains Over Extreme N. Luzon

The tail-end of a cold front continues to bring cloudy skies with rains in Northern Luzon while many parts of the country will continue to experience fair weather on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

PAGASA weather forecaster Benjie Depas said the tail-end of a cold front — the front boundary of two air masses which produces clouds and rain — is now affecting extreme Northern Luzon.

He said cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and isolated thunderstorms will prevail over Batanes, Calayan and Babuyan Group of islands.

He added fair weather or partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated thunderstorms will be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

He noted the weather bureau continues to monitor a weather disturbance outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

He said a low pressure area (LPA) was spotted some 2,900 km east of Luzon and is expected to enter PAR by Wednesday or Thursday.

Depas said the LPA has high chance to intensify into tropical cyclone.

Once it intensifies into tropical cyclone inside the country it will be locally named “Lando”, the 12th tropical cyclone to affect the country this year.

Due to strong to gale force winds associated with northeasterly surface windflow, PAGASA also issued a gale warning as the sea condition will be rough to very rough in the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it warned. (PNA) JBP/CLTC
