Tacloban Vaccinates 13,000 Dogs
Tacloban City (PNA) — The city veterinary office here has so far vaccinated 13,000 dogs out of the 15,000 dog population in the city.
Since February this year, around 4,000 dogs have been castrated under the spay and neuter program. On Sunday, the city veterinary together with Humane Society International, targeted 10,000 dogs for another mass spay and neuter.
According to city veterinarian Eunice Alcantara, these initiatives are part of their work to curb the menace of stray dogs and rabies.
“This is a challenge — controlling this large population. But we’re thankful that the city government is very supportive,” Alcantara said.
The city veterinary office goes around the city’s 138 villages to register the dogs and urge dog owners to create awareness on how to take care of their pets and how fatal diseases coming from stray animals can be. (PNA) JBP/SQM/JAZMIN BONIFACIO/EGR
