Tacloban City Starts Rerouting Vehicles for Pope Visit Saturday
One day before the arrival of Pope Francis, Tacloban City on Thursday started diverting traffic away from the pope’s route. Jerry Noel Ducentes, Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Chief of Region 8 said they are deploying HPG personnel to embark traffic signages that divert route in the City to make way for the Pope on Saturday.
Ducentes also added that they will close several roads going to Tacloban tonight after the last scheduled flight in Tacloban airport. He, however, added that they will ensure that pilgrims can be accommodated during the visit this Saturday.
Ducentes added that only vehicles with car pass can enter the city. Those without passes will be diverted to Babatngon. From Babatngon, they will pass to Barugo and then to Carigara then to Ormoc City, Southern Leyte. Pope Francis will arrive in Tacloban airport Saturday morning where he is reported to officiate a Holy mass. From the airport, the highest official of the Roman Catholic church will part bread with pre-selected Typhoon Yolanda survivors in a scheduled lunch in Palo, Leyte.
