Sueno Urges LGUs to Drumbeat National Women’s Month Celebration
Secretary Ismael ‘Mike’ D. Sueno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) rallies local government units (LGUs) to drumbeat the National Women’s Month Celebration (NWMC) this month with the theme “WE Make Change Work for Women.”
He directed all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors, and barangay officials to do activities that would raise awareness of women empowerment, gender equality, or gender and development in general. According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW),
“WE” in the theme stands for Women Empowerment while the acronym “MCW” for Make Change Work also stands for Magna Carta of Women or Republic Act No. 9710.
The DILG Secretary prods LGUs to organize or participate in the NWMC information campaigns and advocacy activities.
“LGUs can hold a forum in their localities wherein there can be a sharing of women’s inspiring stories of change in their chosen fields, to encourage their fellow women to be empowered change agents,” he said.
He also urges LGUs to produce information, education, and communication (IEC) materials which include collaterals that feature services offered by an LGU to their women constituents. Sueno also underscored the harnessing of the prowess of social media.
He prodded LGUs to participate in the online campaign thread about the NWMC by uploading photos, news feature and other information relative to the NWMC 2017 using the hashtag #WomenMakeChange.
He said that netizens can participate in the PCW’s online advocacy: #BilangBabae I am a #PartnerForChange from March 1 to 20. The said online advocacy enjoins women to share their idea of change and how they see themselves contributing to achieving that change.
The Commission announced that they will give special prizes as a simple token of appreciation for joining their online campaign. (DILG)
