Submarine Coral Crash Investigation Starts Today

To find out if the operator of the yellow submarine will be forever denied of a business permit or not, the Lapu-Lapu City government is set to officially start its investigation on the incident.

“City Hall divers will investigate the site hit by the yellow submarine tomorrow (today) upon orders of the mayor,” said the city’s advisory sent to the media.

The advisory said the dive at Kontiki, the area where the yellow submarine allegedly hit a coral reef, starts at 9:30a.m.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Yellow Submarine and Undersea Tours Corp. management denied there was a crash incident. Agnes Escano, spokesperson of the said tour company, explained that their sea craft is equipped with buoyancy controller which allows it to navigate underwater without hitting the sea bottom or coral reefs. She said the sound heard in the video, which went viral in the Internet, was not from a crash as alleged, but from the air released from that craft’s air tanks.

Earlier this week, the city government issued a suspension order on the submarine’s operation pending the investigation of the incident.
