Stores Near Serendra, Back to Normal

After the powerful explosion that occurred in Unit 501 of Two Serendra in Bonifacio Global City last Friday, shopping centers near the area resumed operations.

These are citizens who flocked to the malls over the weekend to buy school supplies and materials for their children who have gone back to school today. Others were onlookers who even took pictures of the  blast site despite Friday’s tragedy, and others were families who were on their usual strolling in the department stores.

Recent reports have said that the occupant of the unit in Two Serendra where the explosion happened, Angelito San Juan, is a “person of interest” in the investigation. This means that government agencies that are investigating are interested in obtaining his testimony.

San Juan prior to the explosion was reportedly to be complaining that his unit was hot and that he felt suffocation. It was also said in a news source that San Juan was on his way out of his unit when the explosion happened.

San Juan suffered third degree burns in various parts of his body as a result of the blast. He is recuperating in the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) in Global City, Taguig. Four more people were injured in the accident.

The Unit 501 of Two Serendra condominium is owned by US-based owner Marian Cayton Castillo, who lives in Anaheim, California.

San Juan is said to be her family friend who is renting her unit for nine days.

Friday’s explosion, which was at 8 p.m.,  knocked down a wall of the Serendra unit, which fell on top of a passing Abenson truck killing three people.

On Monday,  Interior and Local government Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II said the possibility that a bomb set off the explosion in Two Serendra in Taguig last Friday evening is getting slimmer. This is after three teams of bomb-sniffing dogs failed to detect any scent of bomb powder in the area, and that bomb experts have yet to recover any triggering device from the scene.
