SSS to Hire More PWDs: Promoting Inclusivity in the Workplace
The Social Security System (SSS) recently made an announcement that it is planning to hire more Persons with Disability (PWDs) for its offices and branches. The move is part of the SSS’s efforts to promote the active participation of PWDs in society and provide them with employment opportunities.
SSS President and CEO Rolando Ledesma Macasaet stated that while the institution is compliant with the Magna Carta for PWDs, it aims to explore additional ways to assist PWDs in securing meaningful work. Macasaet emphasized the importance of gainful employment for individuals during their younger years, not only to make ends meet but also to secure their future.
To facilitate the hiring of PWDs, the SSS plans to collaborate with various agencies and organizations that share the same goals, including the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD’s) National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA). This partnership will help disseminate vacancy announcements, facilitate hiring procedures, and ensure the provision of special facilities.
The SSS is a government-run social insurance institution that provides social security protection to Filipino workers in the private and informal sectors. It offers seven benefit programs, including Sickness, Maternity, Unemployment, Retirement, Disability, Death, and Funeral, as well as loan privileges.
As of December 2022, the SSS has a network of 279 local and 28 foreign offices, manned by 6,525 regular employees. The SSS’s initiative to hire more PWDs not only promotes inclusivity but also highlights its commitment to supporting the welfare of all Filipinos, especially those who need it most.
