Spyware Found on Chinese-Made Smartphone
German Security firm G Data Sofware reported that it has discovered a smartphone that comes pre-installed with malicious software straight out of the box, which can be used to track smartphone user and manipulate the device remotely.
The report said that the malicious app is disguised as phone’s Google Play which runs on the background and cannot be detected by users. The malware, named as Usupay.D can send personal data from the smartphone to servers that are believed to be located in China. The app can also allow installation of additional malware without the user’s consent.
G Data Software has identified the smartphone as ‘N9500’ manufatured by Chinese company Star. The security firm also points out that the smartphone looks similar to a top-end smartphone Samsung Galaxy S4.
The malicious software is pre-installed and therefore cannot be deleted like a regular app installed from a third-party app store.
