Sports Equipment Given To Santa Fe, Madridejos
The sports program of the Cebu Provincial Government reached areas far from the metropolitan area, as the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CSPC) distributed a truckload of sports equipment in Bantayan Island on Mar. 11.
Schoolchildren have been looking forward to the sporting goods that they can use for practice. Various sports equipment distributed included table tennis, racquets, basketballs, volleyball, discus, javelin, and shot, among others.
The beneficiaries were the local government units of Santa Fe and Madredijos. Schools that received the equipment are Santa Fe National High School, Bantayan Science High School, Patao National High School, and Madridejos National High School.
After the commission’s creation last year, the need to have a coaching staff in every school was met through its flagship program, which is the grassroots development training for teachers turned coaches.
These teachers with potentials for coaching went through three days of in-house lectures and field trainings, which greatly helped develop their coaching skills and techniques in different sports.
This initiative of CPSC to organize the training is just one of their many undertakings to help promising athletes attain their full potential even while they are still in school.
The CPSC also provided sports equipment to other schools in the province as its commitment to developing student athletes
For Jolina Marfa, a high jump athlete from Patao National High School, the equipment will help hone more athletes from their school in various sports.
The 4th year student-athlete for Palaro added that the neophytes were excited to use the sports equipment.
”Dili na gyud kami maglisod sa among mga training kay anaa na kami mga galamiton, magamit gyud kini sa mga bag-o namo nga mga athletes (The sports equipment will make our trainings easier and our recruits will benefit from them),” she said.
Lilian Cuerpo, MAPEH (music, arts, physical education, and health) coordinator of Santa Fe National High School, expressed her gratitude. ”I have been in this institution for quite a long time and I am retiring this year but as far as I can remember this is the first time that we have received sports equipment,” she said.
PTA president Geraldine Pangue, for her part, was overwhelmed. “We extend our heartfelt thanks to the provincial government of Cebu and the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission. We hope that this is not the last but the beginning of your sports programs,” she said.
CPSC is hopeful that local government units will likewise have a strong sports program.
Paulo Esgana, representative of Mayor Jose Esgana of Santa Fe, was also grateful to receive the sports equipment. “Daghang salamat sa CPSC sa gipanghatag nga sports equipment, kini alang sa pag-promote sa grassroots sports program dinhi sa Santa Fe (Thank you to CPSC for the sports equipment as part of your promotion of the grassroots sports program here in Santa Fe),” he said.
