Spain Ambassador Visits City Hall

His Excellency Jorge Domecq, the Ambassador of Spain to the Philippines visited Cebu City Hall for a courtesy call with Re-elected Cebu City Mayor Michael Lopez Rama on July 3, 2013.

Mayor Rama warmly welcomed the Ambassador at the Mayor’s VIP lounge as they talked about plans and activities to strengthen the ties and relationship between Spain and the Philippines especially in Cebu City who is a sister city of Barcelona City, Spain.

Ambassador Domecq and Mayor Rama first met in 2011 when the former first visited this Queen City of the South, the second was in 2012 for an event in Casino Español de Cebu and the last week was their third time.

The Ambassador congratulated the Mayor for his new mandate and shared the plans to continue their partnership especially with an interested big Spanish firms in water, construction and solid waste management to pour in investments in this city.

Mayor Rama likewise shared that all plans are welcome but it boils down to priorities, adding that in his 2nd term there will be continued development with regards to the drainage and traffic master-plan, environment, heritage preservation, downtown revitalization, tourism, and  retirement and business process outsourcing destinations, among others.

The People’s Mayor further revealed that it would be an exciting, fascinating and rewarding 3 more years of his leadership in the city. He also revealed that the city’s strategic partner Yokohama City, Japan will provide 10 garbage compactors and 2 Yokohama buses for the city which will soon arrive this year.

The two also talked about the plan to pursue the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the Third Mactan-Cebu bridge projects.

Moreover, during the Ambassador’s visit at city hall, he was accompanied by Consul Anton Mari Perdices, while Mayor Rama were with his Protocol Officer Mr. Ryan Necitas Echevarria, Public Information Office (PIO) and Protocol Office Supervisor Ms. Remie Vestil Mondigo, and some PIO and Protocol staffs.
