Dumanjug town, some 75 kilometers southwest of Cebu City, will host the second leg of the Paramount Property Ventures Tri Team Championship Series 2015 on Sept. 26.

The event will offer bigger cash rewards for the overall winners in the standard distance.

The Tri Team Championship Series 2015 leg 2 is set on Sept. 26 which will start at the Dumanjug town plaza.

Race director Benjoe Gimenez of Sugbo Triathlon said this will be the first time for Dumanjug to host a triathlon event, though it regularly hosts swimming events.

Sugbo Triathlon’s Jess Ariola said the support of the local government unit is the reason they have bigger cash prizes for this leg.

He said that aside from the financial support, the town will also provide police personnel and Barangay Tanods to make the route safe.

“The swim course is just near the plaza and the bike route will be going out to Ronda before looping back to Dumanjug,” said Gimenez.

“The road will have a stop and go traffic because we can’t fully close the national road,” Gimenez said.

This leg will feature the standard and sprint distances and will have the same age group categories from the previous leg.

The kiddie tri category, however, will not be staged for this leg.

“We will have a team relay again and we will give cash prizes for the top three teams. This will be a standard distance team relay,” said Regis.

”In the last leg, the team relay was sprint distance and there were no cash prizes,” Regis said.

The men’s and women’s overall champions in the standard distance will pocket PHP10,000 each; the second placers will get PHP7,000 and the third placers earn PHP5,000.

The top three in the team relay event will get PHP7,000, PHP5,000 and PHP3,000 respectively, he said.

The team championship is one of the event’s highlights; the team that will get the most number of points after the third leg set on Feb. 06 next year in Dalaguete will win the coveted crown.

The Parklane Tri-Team currently leads the race with 183 points and Tri-Liloan is second with 135 accumulated score.

WS Tri Team has 116 points for third place.

Those who finish in the top six will earn points for the team.

Early bird registration started Friday and will run until Aug. 26.

The registration fee for the standard distance is at PHP2,000, while the registration fee for the sprint distance is at PHP1,800. Those who join the standard relay will pay PHP1,500 per head.

The regular registration rates will be on Aug. 27 to Sept. 12.

Registration is ongoing at the The Brick Multisport Store in I.T Park, Lahug, SATS office in Talamban, Cebu and online registration at sugbutriathlon.com. (PNA) CTB/EB/MP
