Sony Announces PlayStation 5 Slim Ahead of the Holiday Season
Sony announced the new PlayStation 5, a more slim and modular iteration of their flagship gaming console that is set to release in November.
SIE Content Communications Senior Director Sid Shuman made the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, which highlighted the new features to be expected of the new PlayStation 5 iteration.
“The same technology features that make PS5 the best to play are packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage,” Shuman said.
The PlayStation 5 Slim, as with PlayStations from earlier generations, flaunts a drastically reduced volume by over 30% and a weight cut of 18-24% compared to its predecessor.
Moreover, the new PS5 will feature four separate cover panels, with the top portion coming in a glossy look, while the bottom remains in the matte finish similar to the current PS5 in the market today.
Under the hood, the PS5 will come equipped with a 1TB SSD.
Sony is offering the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive as a separate purchase for those who opt for the Digital Edition, priced at 79.99 USD | 119.99 EURO | 99.99 GBP | 11,980 JPY.
