Smart Acquires Tower Permits For Better Connection
Telecommunications giant Smart Communications has secured permits to build more towers to further boost their connectivity and improve their services. Smart is a wireless subsidiary of PLDT.
660 permits from different Local Government Units (LGU)s have been acquired by Smart to start the construction of their new towers.
According to Smart, the ideal number of towers they build each year is about 1,000-1,500. The construction of more towers is efficient since the 5G technology needs more facilities to be effective.
“We are grateful to the LGUs who are supportive of this initiative – we take it as a nod of confidence and will reciprocate it with the best customer experience,” said Alfredo Panlilio, President and CEO of Smart and Chief Revenue Officer of PLDT.
Panlilio said that more towers mean better connectivity.
“Towers are just one element in the mobile network infrastructure of PLDT-Smart, and we have both fixed and mobile infrastructures,” he added.
Smart currently has around 10,000 macro and micro cell sites, and over 20,000 LTE stations nationwide.
Meanwhile, Panlilio also said that constant coordination with the government is also an important thing to consider as they are the ones who make the initiative to deliver better customer service by allowing them to build more towers and facilities.
PLDT and Smart have been helping the government in the installation and repairs of their connectivity. (MLC)
