Small Hardware Supplies Owners, Manufacturers Tapped in Cebu Province Rebuilding Program
Suppliers, manufacturers, and small business owners of construction materials in Cebu province will play a part in the post-Odette rebuilding of the province as the provincial government bares plans for its PHP1.5 to PHP2 billion house rebuilding program.
Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said in a meeting Tuesday that the province will buy in bulk galvanized iron (GI) sheets along with cement boards needed to rebuild over 300,000 households ravaged by typhoon Odette, which hit Cebu on December 16, 2021.
The Cebu Provincial Government, along with the Department of Trade and Industry and Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry are currently in negotiation with a number of manufacturers for the supply of the needed materials for the house rebuilding project.
Affected households of typhoon Odette will be given a PHP5,000.00 voucher that they may claim in their respective local government units (LGUs).
The materials for the rebuilding project will be distributed to the 36 affected LGUs in the province.
Garcia added during the meeting that the provincial government is also planning to tap them for the supplying of other basic construction essentials such as nails, screws, hammers, saws, among others. (GFB)
