Sinulog sa Kabataan 2015, A Success
(Public Information Office) — Bearing its original slogan, “One Beat, One Dance, One Vision,” and this year’s Sinulog celebration theme, “Santo Niño: Hope of the People,” the annual Sinulog sa Kabataan in honor of the Holy Child this year has turned-out to be a huge success.
LALAWIGAN
Dancers from Talisay City Central Elementary School and Tuburan National High School defended their titles and emerged triumphant in the Elementary and Secondary Divisions in the 2015 Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan held last January 10 Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
Bearing the concept of “Kaplag”, the Talisay City Central Elementary School showed off the discovery of the Holy Child.
The Tinubdan sa Kauswagan Cultural Troupe of the Tuburan National High School with its concept of “Bamboo” locally known as “Kawayan” was also in full performance during the competition. They also won the Best in Costume and Best in Musicality special awards.
Meanwhile, for the Elementary Division Sinulog Ritual Showdown, the Opao Elementary School, Mandaue City Division who won the Best in Costume and Best in Musicality special awards won the 2nd Place. The City of Bogo Division got the 3rd place, along with Pundok Nagahanon sa Sugbo, Naga City Division and the Tribu Kandaya, Maya Elementary School, Daan Bantayan, Cebu who bagged the 4th and 5th places respectively.
For the Elementary Division Street Dancing, Opao Elementary School, Mandaue City Division snatched the 1st place. The Talisay City Central Elementary School got the 2nd place and Pundok Nagahanon sa Sugbo, Naga City Division won the 3rd place.
More so, in the Secondary Division other winners for the Sinulog Ritual Showdown included the following, Carcar City Central School, Carcar City Division as 2nd Placer; Hugpong sa Kulturang Kahumayanon, Danao City and Cordova National High School as 3rd and 4th placers respectively.
For the Street Dancing in the Secondary Division, the Carcar City Central School, Carcar City Division was the 1st placer, along with Tinubdan sa Kauswagan Cultural Troupe, Municipality of Tuburan, Cebu, and Hugpong sa Kulturang Kahumayanon, Danao City as 2nd and 3rd placers respectively.
DAKBAYAN
In the meantime, contingents from Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School and Apas National High School were declared winners in the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan in Elementary and Secondary Divisions respectively held last January 11 Sunday at the Cebu City Sports Complex.
The Don Vicente Rama Memorial Elementary School in their concept of the “Ant’s Life” and the Apas National High School in their concept of the “Prayer and praise from the Spanish period up to the present” both dedicated to the Holy Child wowed everyone especially the judges.
Rounding up the winners in the Sinulog Ritual Showdown for the Elementary Division are Mabolo Elementary School in the 2nd place; Cebu City Central School in the 3rd place and Labangon Elementary School and Carreta Elementary School in the 4th and 5th places respectively.
For the Street Dancing Elementary Division, Mabolo Elementary School emerged as 1st placer, Labangon Elementary School as 2nd placer and Bulacao Community School as 3rd placer.
In the Secondary Division Sinulog Ritual Showdown , following Apas National High School were Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorial National High School as 2nd placer; Abellana National School as 3rd placer; Talamban National High School as 4th placer and Pasil Night High School as 5th placer.
Apas National High School won the Best in Costume while the Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorial National High School was declared as Best in Musicality.
In the Street Dancing Secondary Division, Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorial National High School won the 1st place, followed by Apas National High School and Talamban National High School in the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
PRIZES
The Grand Champion in both categories and divisions took home P300,000; P150,000 for the second placers; P100,000 for the third placers; P75,000 for the fourth placers; and P50,000 for the fifth placers. They also got trophies along with the cash prizes. Those who won the Best in Costume and Best in Musicality awards received P50,000 each. All winners for the Best in Street Dancing received P50,000 each.
Sinulog Foundation Incorporated executive director Ricky Balleteros shared that all winning contingents both in the Sinulog sa Kabataan and Lalawigan in both categories and divisions are expected to join the street dancing and compete in the 35th Sinulog Festival on Sunday January 18.
UNITY
Cebu City Mayor Michael L Rama and Cebu Provincial Governor Hilario Davide III showed their unity for the great success of the celebration.
“Governor dili ta mag-away aron naay Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan. (Governor we will not fight so that there will be Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan),” Mayor Rama underscored.
For his part, Governor Davide in his message quickly responded, “Dili gyod mahitabo nga mag-away ang lalawigan ug syudad sa Sugbo kay kami ni Mike ug ako naay nagbantay si Santo Niño. (It will not happen that the province and the city of Cebu will fight, because Mike and I, Santo Niño is watching us).”
Meanwhile, Mayor Rama who is also the chairman of the Board of the Sinulog Foundation Incorporated and the over-all chairman of the Sinulog 2015 celebration was thankful to everyone who supported all the Sinulog sa Kabataan especially the Department of Education.
Moreover, thousands of crowd from the different walks of life gathered in the venue to witness the activity. The parade route for the Street Dancing from Cebu Provincial Capitol to the Cebu City Sports Complex for the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Lalawigan and from Plaza Independencia to the Cebu City Sports Complex for the Sinulog sa Kabataan sa Dakbayan were also jam-packed with spectators.
