Sinsin to Avail City’s College Scholarship Amid On-Going Classes

The officials of Barangay Sinsin, Cebu City are requesting Mayor Michael Rama to allow their children to avail the city’s college scholarship program even if they graduated from a public school in Minglanilla.

Sinsin Barangay Captain Ramon Ylaya Jr. said many of his constituents’ children, particularly those residing at Sitio Lantawan and other nearby sitios, finished high school at the Campo 7 High School in Barangay Campo 7, Minglanilla.

Ylaya explained that since it is most accessible for residents of Sitio Lantawan and neighboring sitios, many residents of Barangay Sinsin send their children to study at Campo 7 High School.

To avail of Cebu City’s scholarship program, applicants must be graduates of public high schools in Cebu City.

“It would not be fair and discriminatory to deny our constituents of this right and privilege to be able to send their children to college all because they live at the far end of the barangay. For our constituents in the mountain barangays who are mostly below the poverty level, the college scholarship program of the city is a dream come true,” Ylaya said.

The Barangay Council of Sinsin passed a resolution requesting the scholarship committee under the Office of the Mayor to consider the request, although it is already late for the students for this school-year, they hope that it will be useful for the incoming graduates.

The mayor said he will ask the members of the scholarship committee to evaluate the request of the barangay officials of Sinsin.
