Signs of Stressed Skin You Shouldn’t Ignore

Published

Stress effects on your skin can be easy to spot, but harder to fix. Find out what are the signs of fatigued skin which may have a connection with your stress levels.

Anxiety is a big enemy of your skin’s glow since stress causes excess production of cortisol, a hormone which can affect your skin in unwanted ways, from acne to stress skin rashes. Besides creating new symptoms, stress can also make certain skin conditions get worse.

Herpes outbreaks and acne are related to stress, and so are other increasingly severe symptoms for those who suffer from eczema, psoriasis or rosacea.

Signs of Fatigued Skin

Usually, the stress skin rash symptoms don’t appear out of nowhere. Fighting stress for an extended period of time can show up in other, more subtle ways regarding your skin.

Excessive skin dryness, along with fine lines, redness and tired looking eyes are the most common signs that stress and anxiety are affecting your skin.

Getting acne at exactly the wrong time is also part of this vicious cycle: the more you get stressed out about a special day, the higher the chances of getting acne, which causes even more stress.

Stress Symptoms on the Skin

When your stress levels are higher than usual, this can lead to even more serious problems, like a stress skin rash, hives and a strong itchiness sensation.

Stress skin rash symptoms include red and itchy breakouts which can get worse if you stress over them ever further. Hives on the skin caused by stress can last for days or even a week and they should simply be ignored if you know they’re stress related. Washing your skin too often can worsen the rash and worrying about it usually makes things worse.

Can you get itchy bumps from stress? Yes, that’s another unfortunate side effect which stress can have on your skin when you can’t keep it in check.

Stress management is very important to reduce the effects of anxiety on your skin and working out also helps, pumping up your endorphin levels and fighting the cortisol.

How to Fight Stress Effects on the Skin

When you’re showing signs of fatigued skin, it’s always better to completely prevent the stress skin rash and other symptoms. You may not be able to reduce your stress levels, but you can take better care of your skin, by using hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products.

Creams with retinoids and cleansers for acne prone skin can help fight or prevent hives on the skin caused by stress, but they won’t work wonders as long as the main cause of the problem is still in play.
