SheMatters Unveils New Logo, Improved Website

After five years, SheMatters, a non-government organization (NGO) that advocates cervical cancer prevention, has unveiled its new logo and improved website (www.shematters.com.ph) that reflects the organization’s personality as open, friendly and all-inclusive.

The new logo combines the colors of teal and white, depicting the organization’s collective efforts in uniting everyone to be proactive in the prevention of cervical cancer and engage the public with the social issue.

With the new logo, SheMatters hopes to convince more women to take actions against the “silent killer,” including taking an annual cervical cancer screening or pap smear.

“We changed the logo because we want the people to understand that we are an advocacy group,” SheMatters Founder Ms. Emee Aquino said.

Along with its logo improvement is the upgrading of the organization’s website. The new site has a comprehensive content that includes a background of the organization and its advocacies, what cervical cancer is and a list of OB-GYNE doctors in Cebu.

Cervical cancer is caused by an infection with the human papilloma virus (HPV) passed on by one person to another through sexual contact. The cases being diagnosed with cervical cancer is increasing, making it the second most common cancer among women in the Philippines, next to breast cancer.

“SheMatters encourages women from age 21 who have experienced sex to make it a practice to see an OB-GYN every year, whether sexually active or not,” she said.

SheMatters started reaching out to people in 2009 as a personal advocacy of its founder. In 2010, it became a duly registered organization.

The organization holds focus group discussions and seminars among the locals of Cebu, wherein they invite experts and doctors to participate.

“What we do is talk and encourage people to talk, so cervical cancer can be stopped”, she added.

Just last May 2, SheMatters joined the Lantern Walk, an annual event held every Scarlet May or the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and organized by Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center OB-GYN Department in collaboration with other NGOs and local government units.
