Shape Up and Tone Your Body at Home
Exercise can be time consuming, boring or too difficult – certified personal trainer Trina Lambe has heard every excuse! To help kick-start or maintain your exercise program, Trina has created a custom circuit workout that incorporates tabata training, the latest trend in high-intensity cardio workouts. According to Trina, tabata training delivers large calorie burn in a short amount of time and can be done anywhere.
Tabata workout:
5 minute warm-up (walking or light jogging)
Set one:
20 seconds – mountain climbers
How: Begin in a pushup position on the hands and toes. Bring the right knee in towards the chest, resting the foot on the floor. Jump up and switch feet in the air, bringing the left foot in and the right foot back. You can also run the knees in and out rather than touching the toes to the floor. Continue alternating the feet as fast as you safely can for 30-60 seconds.
10 seconds – rest
Repeat four times
Set two:
20 seconds – squat jumps
How: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, arms at sides. Start by doing a regular squat and then jump up as explosively as you can when you rise up reaching for the ceiling. When you land, lower your body back into the squat position to complete one rep.
10 seconds – rest
Repeat four times
Cool down!
While it is especially important to properly hydrate during intense exercise, it is just as important to stay hydrated throughout the day. If you find yourself bored of water and crave a flavored beverage minus the calories, try herbal tea, sparkling water or a no calorie.
