From tonnage of garbage to zero waste, the kind of management which the Sinulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) sets during the Sinulog Festival 2014.

SFI Director Ricky Ballesteros said the Sinulog 2015 must be the cleanest to be experienced by the foundation management as they will strictly implement the “zero waste policy.”

This is a trial of good management because aside from losing the P1.7 million SFI funds two years ago, there were no more failure or big problems confronted by its management, Ballesteros said.

He said all views and comments from viewers and onlookers were always in the positive aspects, considering the fact the good discipline transpired to the Sinulog performers as shown in their respective piece of performance during the Sinulog proper.

Ballesteros said he is very thankful to all performers in that aspect.

But on the aspect of cleanliness, “I could say I have no control yet on those people who forgot the right manners they ought to have,” he said.

Although Ballesteros is honest to say that in the aftermath of past Sinulog activities, the city garbage collectors have experienced huge wastes and tonnage of garbage compiled both inside and outside the Cebu City Sports Center.

The Sinulog chief said it was a part of the activities where Sinulog management lacks power to stop this malpractices.

Ballesteros added it is already a common practice to throw away waste materials everywhere in any gathering in the city, “as if they themselves have no more control too of what they are doing”, he said.

He admitted that this is because there was no strict implementation of the law.

This is the reason why this coming Sinulog 2015, Ballesteros said he already made a strategy on how to become successful in his drive to have a zero waste Sinulog in Cebu City.

He shared the local government of Davao City maintains a kind of habit everytime there are mass activities there to allow every person to bring their own plastic garbage bag.

Even with or without security guards to inspect this garbage bag, every resident will no longer wait for any reminder because it is already their habit which they considered as part of their daily activities at home and outside their homes, he said.
