Seniors Receive P3k Cash
Eighty to Ninety per cent among the total number of senior citizens in Cebu City received their P3,000 cash assistance each yesterday.
According to the Cebu City Social Services and Development Office (SSDO), all concerned aged persons who failed to get their cash assistance on Monday are given 15 days to claim it at the city treasurer’s office at Cebu City Hall before the 15 days deadline lapse.
But their failure to get this cash within the allowable period, will be enough reason for the city government to forfeit this and return to the city government’s coffer.
The local government has already given a total of P10,000 to each senior citizen as of Monday, and the balance of P2,000 will be given on the second week of January 2015 to complement the total P12,000 assistance.
Cebu City has more than 50,000 registered senior citizens who are granted by the local government of Cebu City to receive the P12,000 cash assistance this year. This amount was a commitment made by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama to all senior citizens who are existing voters in Cebu City during his mayoralty campaign prior to the 2013 elections.
Formerly, the amount was only P10,000 a year, but with Rama’s promise to add this with another P2,000 after the 2013 elections.
Majority of the senior citizens in Cebu City voted Rama, allowing him to enjoy his last term to lead another three more years as City mayor.
His promise to give P12,000 cash assistance to each senior citizen has already become a law, and every concerned senior citizen has the right to claim this amount even without the existence of Rama after the 2016 elections.
“This amount is a legacy of mayor Rama, and we shall pray to God that there will be another round of increase after the 2016 elections”, a senior citizens from barangay Pardo said.
