Senator Bong Go Extends Aid to Lapu-Lapu Fire Victims
After a fire broke in Barangay Gun-ob on Saturday, July 13, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go personally
distributed financial and relief assistance to the fire victims in the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Lapu-Lapu City Fire District Office yesterday, July 16.
Around 200 houses were brought down by the fire.
Go also extended assistance to the fire victims in Tagbilaran City in Bohol before flying directly to Cebu.
Go interacted with the fire victims and it was no suprise that they were happy to see the senator.
Go said that his heart is very close to the people of Cebu since he received a lot of support from Cebuanos during the May 13 midterm elections.
“Ako dako gyud kog pasalamat sa mga taga Cebu, gawas nga kitang tanan pareha ra nga bisaya, nakabalo gyud ko nga dako inyung suporta nako para mahimo kong senador para maka serbisyo ko sa inyong tanan (Aside from being a “bisaya”, I extend my gratitude to all Cebuano for giving me the chance to serve the Filipino people), “ Go said.
Go, along with the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Dino, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), National Housing Authority (NHA), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lapu-Lapu City and other agencies distributed cash assistance, grocery packs, and clothing to the fire victims.
“Naa koy mga kauban sa lain lain nga mga ahensiya kinsa nitabang sad nako para maka tabok mo sa inyung gi agian karon (I have my colleagues here with me from different government agencies to help you stand up again),” Go said.
Go expressed his sympathy to the fire victims saying that it is never easy for an individual to experience this kind of challenge.
Go also introduced two renowned actors to entertain the fire victims.
Action stars Robin Padilla and Phillip Salvador interacted with the fire victims to put a smile on their faces despite the challenge they are currently experiencing.
Meanwhile, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor guaranteed that all house owners can return to their respective areas.
“Ang tanang mga nanag-iya gyud ug balay sigurado gyud nang makabalik ug tagaan pa nato silag cash assistance pod (I guarantee that the house owners can return to that area, we will also give them cash
assistance)” Chan said.
Chan said that from the day the fire broke out, the LGU of Lapu-Lapu City assisted the fire victims immediately and distributed housing materials, food and grocery packs.
Just this June, Senator Go visited the fire victims in Barangay Tipolo in Mandaue City. (MLC)
