Sen. Marcos Urges Ilocanos to Unite for VP Bid
Laoag City (PNA) — Vice presidential candidate Sen. Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos, Jr. calls for “One Ilocos Norte” once again for his campaign in the 2016 elections where he is reportedly to run in tandem with Sen. Mirriam Defensor-Santiago.
In a luncheon gathering on Friday, October 16 with political allies and supporters at the Malacanang of the North in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Marcos said the only way to a successful campaign is for the Ilocanos to settle with one goal.
“Ang isang national election ay hindi maaaring panalunin kung hindi matibay ang inyong sariling probinsya. Hindi magiging matagumpay ang campaign kung ang Ilocos Norte na pinanggalingan ko ay hati-hati (A national election cannot win the race if my home province which is Ilocos Norte is not united),” Marcos said.
He said Ilocos Norte needs a strong foundation of oneness for his successful vice presidential bid and urged the Ilocanos particularly the local executives and officials to unite.
“Ang maaari at pinakamaganda ninyong gawin para matulungan ang aking kandidatora, kung hindi buo kung hindi nag-iisa ang Ilocos Norte, mahirap makipaglaban sa national election (The best way to help my candidacy is to become one Ilocos Norte),” Marcos said.
He also said that Ilocanos’ help and unity has been very valuable to their family especially during their biggest trial that even when his family lives in Manila, they always consider Ilocos Norte as their home.
Marcos said that he is counting on his fellow Ilocanos for their support and assurance that a solid North will work its wonders in the coming elections with the good leadership of her sister Gov. Imee R. Marcos.
“Magkaisa tayo sa likod ng isang mabuting lider. It would be the better of all of us (Let us unite behind one true leader),” he said.
Marcos also added, “The only way I can go out for the rest of the country for support and understanding is if only I can say and we have done it in Ilocos Norte, we are united, and we are together and this way we are strong that is what we need to do.”
Marcos is the seventh candidate who filed his certificate of candidacy for vice president on Tuesday, October 13.
Addressing the rest of Ilocanos, Marcos said, “Even If I am not here often, I know that your thoughts are with me and I am strengthened of that thought.” (PNA) LAP/CDG/RSM
