Santa Fe Mayor Positive Over Airport Project
Sante Fe Mayor Jose Esgana is positive that Bantayan Island will have its own airport built before 2016 ends.
Esgana said this after meeting with President Aquino, who he asked for approval on the project, and the latter had reportedly given his go signal on the project.
“Dapat mahuman nana before the end of the term of the President. When he was here I told him the airport is the legacy of his mother, during her time as president, my father was also the mayor. Sabi niya, ‘Okay’ “, said Esgana.
Esgana said they will have to concretize the one-kilometer runway and they are good go.
For now, the runway, which was inaugurated in 1990, is still made of limestones. He said they have a total of 30 hectares which could be made into an airport.
The mayor said that aside from cutting the travel time of 4-5 hours to Cebu City, the airport is also good economically, especially that “Bantayan is a tourist destination and is actively trading its fish to the different parts of the country”.
For his part, Governor Hilario Davide III said the province supports the project which he hopes would start soon.
