Samsam Defends Brother
First District Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas defended his younger brother Talisay City Councilor Eduardo “Digul” Gullas III’s alleged ‘non performance’ of duties as councilor.
“He is just very busy with his studies. But of course, he has not been remiss in his duties as a public servant,” said Samsam.
Samsam’s defense came after Talisay City Mayor Johnny V. Delos Reyes cut down the number of job order (JO) workers of Digul from 50 to 5. City administrator John Yre delos Reyes reasoned that they had to do it because Digul did not monitor the workers under his office. Each opposition councilor, Digul being one, gets 50 JOs since the new administration assumed office in July this year. But at the start of December, Delos Reyes slashed Digul’s and Association of Barangay Councils president Raul Cabañero’s shares to 5 apiece. The rest of the eight opposition councilors still has the usual 50.
Apart from Digul’s alleged tardiness, Delos Reyes said he had to cut down the swelling JOs to save funds. Before the slashing, the city had more than 2,000 of them or at least P12 million in salaries per month.
Digul, 22, is a college student. He was 19 when first elected as councilor. From number one in 2010, he landed number 10 in last May’s polls, after only passing a few resolutions and having the most number of absences in the council’s regular sessions.
