Roxas: Clean up of Evidence in Blast Site, Set Low Standards of Police Work
DILG Secretary Mar Roxas got infuriated over the thorough clean up of the crime scene by mall employees saying that the ‘thorough cleaning’ and ‘scrubbing off’ of evidence set new low standards in the annals of sloppy police work.
Roxas, who is at Cagayan De Oro Saturday to investigate the bombing of Kyle’s Bar on Friday last week was exasperated over the cleaning up of evidnce saying: “Ngayon lang ako nakakita ng crime scene na in less than 12 hours after the incident ay ni-release na,” he said. “At hindi lang ni-release, hinayaan nilang kuskusin, linisin. Ibig sabihin, lahat ng mga ebidensya ay nawala na” Gma news online reported.
Reports said the police had permitted the owners of the affected bars in Limketkai Mall to conduct a clean up over the bloody mess hours after the blast. The bomb exploded in Kyla’s Bistro, killing six people. Roldan Lagbas, provincial board member of Misamis Oriental, were among those who are killed in the bombing, Gma news said.
The SOCO (scene of the crime operatives) team in Cagayan de Oro had insisted that the needed pieces of evidence had been collected from the site. But Roxas, armed with experience with the Serendra gas blast last May 31, stressed that a lot more could have been done with modern methods and equipment in evidence collection, the online news said.
“‘Yung kagamitan ng Cagayan de Oro ay hindi naman katumbas sa kagamitan ng mga mas modernong SOCO investigation,” he added. “Ang crime scene, wala na, nawala na kasama ang sabon at tubig na ginamit sa pagkuskus ng crime scene na ito.”
Reports said Roxas has explained that the most police can do now is conduct profiling and background checks on victims in an attempt to determine who the real target of the attack was.
“Itong naging pagsabog, ito’y isang act of cowardice. Terorismo ba ito, personal grudge ba ito, away-babae, away-lupa, hindi natin malalaman kung ano nga ba. Ang ebidensyang andoon sa crime scene, nawala na,” Roxas said in a report on GMA News TV.
