‘Rosita’ Leaves Over P114M Damage to NV Agri Sector

Typhoon ‘Rosita’ has left more than P114 million-worth of damages to the province’s agricultural sector, particularly on rice and other crops, provincial agriculturist Alexander Domingo said.

In a damage assessment report, Domingo said the typhoon’s damage to rice crops has reached more than P92 million value of losses based on farmgate price and more than P115 million value of losses based on cost of inputs with close to 116 million Metric Tons as total production loss.

“The damaged rice crops are already on their maturing, vegetative and reproductive stages when they were hit by the typhoon,” he said.

Domingo also said the affected towns are Dupax del Sur, Dupax del Norte, Kasibu, Kayapa, Quezon, Solano, Sta. Fe, Villaverde, Alfonso Castaneda, Ambaguio, Aritao, Bagabag, Bambang, Bayombong and Diadi.

He added that High Value Commercial Crops such as fruits and vegetables in the province also suffered losses amounting to more than P31 million, also affecting the 15 municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya.

On other crops such as white and yellow corn, Domingo also noted P32 million-worth of losses particularly in the affected towns of Bagabag, Kasibu, Solano, Bayombong, Quezon, Villaverde and Dupax del Norte.

“We are now validating these damages directly from the affected farmers so that we can submit our report to the provinvcial and national government for the needed assistance to our agricultural sector,” he further said. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
