Rising Dengue Cases in Central Visayas Causes Concerns
The Department of Health 7 (DOH 7) is now concerned about the rise of dengue cases in Central Visayas.
Now that the country is in a rainy season, DOH urges local government units to initiate their anti-dengue measures. Most especially schools that are preparing for the limited face-to-face classes.
DOH 7 dengue prevention and control program head Dr. Ronald Jarvik Buscato said that from January 1 to March 28, the region has recorded 4,623 dengue cases in total while also recording 38 deaths.
He mentioned that the dengue cases rose to over 400% compared to the dengue cases in the same period.
He also said that they are expecting a rise in dengue cases in the next weeks, as the cases in the region have not peaked yet.
Buscato added that Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Talisay City, and Minglanilla recorded a high number of dengue cases.
Seeing Patterns
DOH 7 Regional Director Dr. Jaime Bernadas said that they are seeing a pattern.
He mentioned a sudden rise of dengue cases happens once every three years — the last dengue outbreak happened last 2016 and 2019.
He also urged parents of children or people who have experienced fever for two or three days to get checked immediately. (ASC)
