Review: International Academy for Film and Television Open House
The professors of International Academy of Film and Television conducted an open house seminar last May 8, 2015 at the International Academy of Film and Television from 1:00PM-5:00PM. People who were interested to study in the International Academy of Film and Television and to those who were interested to learn more about filming in general were present during the open house seminar.
The attendees were first given a tour of the school, where they were brought to the different offices, studios and departments. Once the tour was done, the attendees arrived in the last room of the tour, the acting studio, where the first class was conducted.
The first class, Acting Class and Acting Reels, was taught by Mr. Sean, an acting conductor in the school. He gave tips and talks on acting, and also presented an acting reel of one of the students that studied in the school, where he stated that every aspiring actor should always be prepared with it, for it is an actor’s resume.
The second class was about Animation I, which was taught by Sir Jonathan, a teacher who teaches animation in the school. He talked about the animation course offered and the programs. He also showed two animation works done by students.
The third class was about Green Screen, which was conducted by Sir Trevor, where he brought the attendees to the production design set room, where the green screen was located. One of the attendees volunteered to model for the green screen shoot. In the same area, the fourth class, Cinematography 101, was conducted by the same professor. He took some shots in the production design set room and gave tips on how to get the perfect lighting in shots and when to use correct lighting day and night.
The fifth class was about Producing 101, which was conducted by Sir Russ. He wrote down a screenplay on the white board, and listed down how each sequence in the screenplay will be shot, where he then gave a talk on how to properly shoot each scene in the screenplay he wrote down, where he gave talks on camera angles and time management of shooting each scene. In the same room, he conducted the sixth class on Writing 101. Unlike the other classes, this class lasted less than five minutes, where Sir Russ just gave tips on how to write screenplays to those who wanted to become screenwriters in the future.
The final class was on Animation II, which was conducted by Sir Jonathan. Unlike Animation I, Animation II was focused on the more advanced, complicated techniques of animation. Not only did Sir Jonathan conduct the class, but he allowed his students taking up animation to give a talk on their experiences in the course.
The open house seminar ended with a question and answer portion, where the professors and students entertained the questions. The admissions team from the International Academy of Film and Television also gave a step-to-step talk on enrollment to those who were interested to start schooling there.
The International Academy for Film and Television is one of the schools in Cebu that are helping make students become future, independent film makers. Seeing how Cebu is slowly growing into the cinema culture is interesting to see. Cebu may not home any famous blockbuster movies, but seeing how the the Cebuano indie films are slowly growing in the contemporary era, hopefully Cebu can slowly home well-recognized films, if not recognized, then more films that can help show how much talent the Cebuanos have impacted on making the film. This would be something exciting to witness in the future.
It was a successful open house seminar which left the attendees in awe, for they were filled with new information and techniques about filming. Hopefully, this open house seminar also helped for International Academy of Film and Television with the opportunity to grab new students for the new school year, and hopefully, potential film makers in Cebu.
