Returning Norwood, Debuting Alas Headline Gilas’ FIBA Asia Cup Pool

Gilas coach Chot Reyes added some veteran smarts to his national team pool as he inserted Gabe Norwood to Gilas’ initial lineup for the FIBA Asia Cup in Beirut on Aug. 8-20.

Reyes revealed through a tweet on Saturday that the Rain Or Shine winger is one of the latest additions to Gilas 5.0, joining fellow Gilas veterans Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Andray Blatche, Junemar Fajardo, Ray-Ray Parks, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario, and Jayson Castro and fellow Elasto Painter Raymond Almazan.

Meanwhile, Reyes also bared that Kevin Alas will get a national team call-up as his name is also listed in the FIBA Asia Cup pool.

Completing the pool are Gilas Rookies Carl Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Baser Amer, Mac Belo, Kobe Paras, Jio Jalalon, Allein Maliksi, Kiefer Ravena, RR Pogoy, Mike Tolomia, Norbert Torres, Chris Standhardinger, and Matt Wright.

It is noticeable that Parks, Rosario, Cruz, Amer, Paras, Ravena, Tolomia, and Standhardinger were inserted to Gilas’ FIBA Asia Cup pool despite being earlier named to the national team’s lineup for the SEA Games, which will coincide with the FIBA Asia Cup. (Ivan Saldajeno/PNA)
