Residents of Lapu-Lapu Islet Receive Solar Panels
Around 80 households of Barangay Caohagan in Olango island received solar panels from the local government unit (LGU) of Lapu-Lapu City.
The solar panel set is equipped with LED lights and a smartphone connector.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said that the mentioned islet has been experiencing power supply problems. By ensuring the power supply in the islet, it will definitely boost tourism in the area as well.
“Sa pagbisita nato sa Caohagan, atong nasulbad ang problema nila sa kuryente pinaagi sa atong gihatag nga solar panels ug sa samang higayon atong na-promote ang atong kaugalingong tourist spot nga mapasigarbuhon natong matandi sa uban pang inila nga mga tourist destinations sa Pilipinas,” said Mayor Chan in his official Facebook page post.
Before the distribution of solar panels, residents mainly depend on generators, gas lamps and candles as their source of light and electricity.
Caohagan is proud of their white sand beaches and crystal clear water which is a tourist attraction.
Aside from the solar panel sets distributed, another 25 solar-powered street lights have been installed in the area.
Last week, the LGU of Lapu-Lapu City also gave 560 solar panel sets to and installed 80 solar-powered street lights to benefit the residents of barangay Caubian, another islet of Olango group of islands.
Mayor Chan also shared that the distribution of pumpboats for fisherfolks is their next program. (MLC)
