Relief Goods on the Way to Flooded Jipapad Town, PA Erroba
Relief goods are on the way to Jipapad town that suffered extreme flooding in the last three days brought about by the rains from TD Samuel.
In a radio interview, George Erroba, E. Samar provincial administrator said that Board Member Jojie Montallana from Jipapad town still has to go to Lapinig town, next municipality to get signal and report to the provincial government the situation in Jipapad town.
The town near two rivers reportedly has not experienced this extreme flooding even with Ty Yolanda and Ty Ruby, two of the most destructive typhoons that hit E. Samar.
Vehicles could not get through Jipapad as several landslides blocked the access road and the Oras River also proved risky to sail to deliver relief goods, said Erroba.
The town has prepositioned food packs then, he added. but with the extreme flood, the same got wet and rendered useless.
The residents too who have prepared on their own were unable to salvage their food. There were 39 totally damaged houses and more than 2,000 partially damaged houses according to e report from the PDRRMO.
TD Samuel brought so much rain in Eastern Samar that it caused landslides in major roads, damaged two houses in Brgy Binaloan, Taft town and rendered some barangays in Oras, Dolores, San Julian and even in Llorente town flooded.
The 14th IB, Philippine Army reported that it assisted DSWD 8 team led by Pauline Nadera, Division Chief, Disaster Response Management Division and Billy Beriaso, OIC of the Regional Resources Operation Section in hauling and distributing 1,500 relief food packs to the residents of flooded barangays in Oras town.
Erroba assured the flood victims that they will receive their own food packs, but the provincial government needs to attend to those in Jipapad as priority. (nbq/PIA 8-E Samar)
