Regional Folk Dance Competition to Showcase Day-Care Talents
After besting contenders from other local government units (LGUs), top winners of the provincial folk dance, singing and draw-and-tell contest will represent Cebu Province in the Regional Children’s Contest on Nov. 29 at the USPF main campus in Lahug, Cebu City.
Kids from day care centers in the province showed off their charm, talents and skills as they participated in the recently concluded two-day Provincial Children’s Contest at the Capitol Social Hall.
The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) with Marivic Garces at the helm spearheaded the annual activity, supported by Governor Hilario P. Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.
The municipality of Sibonga took home the championship in the folk dance category with a P15,000 cash prize, trophy, and certificate while the second place went to the day care kids from Madridejos with P10,000 cash prize, trophy, and certificate.
Carmen’s daycare dance group landed on the third spot bringing home P8,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate.
Cebu’s aspiring four-year old singers also showed off they can carry a tune or two.
Marjun Canada of Catmon bested 36 other contenders in this category with his powerful rendition of his winning song, May Bukas Pa.
The young Canada brought home a P3,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate.
Ginatilan’s Krybelle Marie Demira, 4, finished second place with her rendition of Yesterday’s Dream and received P2,500 cash prize, trophy and certificate.
In third place was Ma. Niña Rose, also four years old, for her rendition of Paglaum, and won P1,500, trophy and certificate.
And for the last, but definitely not the least category, the four year-olds showed off their drawing and public speaking skills.
Draw-and-tell contestants were tasked to draw according to the theme “Isulong, Kalidad na Edukasyon Para sa Lahat ng Bata” and explain their drawing in five minutes.
Janiella Chilvier Labajo wowed the audience as she explained her drawing showing homeless street children. She bagged the first place with P3,000 cash prize and trophy.
Participating LGUs this year were Minglanilla, Tuburan, Sogod, Pinamungajan , Liloan, Compostela, San Fernando, Madridejos, San Remigio, Cordova, Consolacion, Sibonga, Daanbantayan, Ginatilan, Aloguinsan, Balamban, Catmon, Asturias, Barili, and Medellin. (Fides Palicte)
