Reading Between the Lines
Why is it important to learn to persevere in adversity and not give up?
“Because He turned His ear to me, I will call on Him as long as I live.” Psalm 116:2
“Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” Romans 5:3-4
To stay strong, to persevere, to endure — these characteristics are very important in dealing with the adversities of life. The adversity doesn’t only intend to allow us to feel the pain, but to see a window of opportunity out of it. From that opportunity arises a certain strength in us that produces a good, quality character that is different from how we were before the calamities of our lives.
Without adversity, we can’t have the chance to exercise our faith and see the workings of God. Therefore, there will be no chances for us to know God and see His joy, peace, love and blessings for us. We won’t have a perspective of Him at all if our life will always be a bed of roses. Without problems, we won’t discover that God is far greater than our problems, the problem Solver, the Healer, the Provider and the so many other aspects of God. With the recent catastrophes that have slammed our country, let us ask God what His message is in these unexpected phenomena. He holds the earth and all the creatures in it. It belongs to Him!
