So much of life’s experiences seem to point us towards money, how to get rich or get out of the rat race, find financial security, experience all that the world has to offer, gain fame, wealth, and significance… and every once in awhile, something happens that reminds us of how very short & temporary life really is. The death of a loved one, a fatal disease killing a friend… and from the deepest depths of our hearts, the REAL questions rise to the surface:

What happens after death? Where will I go? Is there really an eternity that so many people talk about? And what we notice is that none of these questions inquire about the temporal life on earth.

Suddenly, a million dollars become insignificant. Houses and cars feel empty. And lounging around in beaches and experiencing other cultures seem shallow. At one point in time, so full of meaning, and so rich with experiences waiting to be indulged in. And yet as quickly as a flip of a coin, the world loses all its appeal. There is suddenly nothing in the world left desirable.

Why? Because “He (God) has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart, yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” -Eccl. 3:11
