Re-blocking Helps Firemen Access in Fire Incidents, Fire Marshall says

Cebu City Fire Marshall William Tacaldo has suggested that there should be an immediate re-blocking to be conducted in densely-populated residential areas in Cebu City so the fire fighters can be effective in preventing fire incidents.

During the meeting of the Police Coordinating Advisory Council (PCAC) on Tuesday,  Tacaldo said the narrow access roads or lack of access roads in densely-populated areas of the city remain one of the reasons why the fire fighters cannot quickly put off the fires because their fire trucks could hardly access the fire scenes.

Mayor Michael Rama asked Tacaldo to submit a report of which area in the city that should be prioritized for re-blocking because it cannot be done simultaneously in different barangays

The mayor has admitted that the re-blocking at the residential area in the city purposely to create new access roads or to widen the existing access roads in going to the interior portions of the barangays would result to displacement of several families, whose houses are built beside the roads.

It prompted Rama to widen the narrow roads along T. Villa and F. Villa Streets in Barangay T. Padilla to 10 meters-wide after the place was hit by a fire that razed close to 500 houses in 2010.

Rama had said that he also want that re-blocking shall be implemented in other densely-populated areas in barangays Suba, Pasil, Lorega-San Miguel, Labangon, Tinago, Dulho-Fatima, Mambaling and some other barangays.
