Rama Wins by 6,376 Vote Lead
The crowd cheers as reelectionist Cebu City Mayor Michael “Mike” Rama emerged victorious in the Cebu City Hall tuesday afternoon after his electoral fight against congressman Tomas “Tommy” Osmeña.
Rama called an early victory with 6,376 votes over Osmena. Chairman of the Board of Canvassers Ferdinant Gujilde said that even with the absence of the 3 precincts from Mambaling, Barrio Luz, and Cambinocot accumulates only less than the votes needed for Osmeña to overcome the lead of Rama.
“Even if they all voted for Osmeña, it cannot beat Rama’s lead.” Gujilde said.
Comelec VII Regional Director Atty. Temie Lambino showed COMELEC Resolution 9700 which provides that they can proclaim winners below 100 percent canvassing threshold.
COMELEC’s official tally showed 217,488 for Michael Rama, and 211,072 for Osmeña.
About 4:30 p.m., Gujilde handed over a certificate of canvass of votes to Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and proclaimed his win for the second term.
Rama raised his hands and thanked over the hundreds of persons jam packed in the Cebu City Hall. He waved gloriously and smiled as his campaign jingle was played.
“Daku kaayo na responsibilidad atu ibalik sa mga katawhan, tabangi ko ninyo and we can make things happen” Rama said.
After the proclamation, Rama headed to the Basilica del Sto. Nino around 5:40 p.m. together with his son Mikel Rama to give thanks for his victory.
