Rama Cautions Personal Use of Govt. Vehicles
Mayor Michael Rama is not amenable that all Cebu City-owned vehicles will just be parked at the City Hall premises after office hours.
During an interview Thursday, the mayor explained that he prefers that the vehicles will be brought home by officials and employees so that these can be quickly use when it is necessary.
“Kon ibutang na sa usa lang ka lugar ang mga sakyanan, kon bombahan pa lang unya na…mahurot ang atong mga sakyanan. Usahay lagi kinahanglang gamiton nato ang atong utok,” Rama told reporters.
Almost all of the city’s over 500 assorted service vehicles are being brought home by persons to whom they are issued and only a few of them are parked at Plaza Sugbo, in front of City Hall, after office hours.
The Property Custodianship handbook of the Commission on Audit provides that public vehicles should be parked at the government garage after working hours, although these can be brought home if the concerned government office does not have its own garage.
Rama further said that while he approves that the city-owned vehicles may be brought home by the city officials and employees after office hours, he said these should not be used for personal interest.
There have been reports that several government vehicles are seen roaming around the city and driven by people who are not City Hall employees.
