Rama Backs Road Widening, Improvement of Intersections
Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama has said he supports the proposed road widening and improvement of intersections in 24 key areas in the city.
Rama was reacting to a letter from the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7 seeking for his support on the projects so they will be included in the 2016 infrastructure program of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“I’d like to be very clear. The mayor would never be against infrastructure,” he said.
But Rama asked the DPWH to coordinate and discuss these projects with the City Government before they will be implemented.
Rama said it should be determined whether or not they will be implemented during classes or during the summer vacation.
It should also be considered that there are many events in the city, such as the Sinulog festival which falls on every third week of January, he said.
The 24 road projects have been identified by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) as “priority projects” in its Roadmap Study for Sustainable Urban Development in Metro Cebu.
Of the 24 projects, 12 road sections were proposed for widening and 12 major intersections were identified for improvement. (PNA) FFC/EB/EDS
