Rainy Thursday Due to LPA East of Mindanao
(PNA) — Another weather disturbance has formed that would bring light to moderate rains in most parts of the country on Thursday, according to to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Fernando Cada said that a cloud cluster in East of Mindanao has intensified into a low pressure area (LPA).
Based on the agency’s numerical models, Cada said the LPA has a slim chance to become a tropical depression.
He noted that they expect the cloud bands of the potential cyclone to disorganize in the next few days since it is already near the landmass.
Cada said it is likely that the country will continue to be storm-free until the end of the month.
However, he said PAGASA expects three to four cyclones to visit the country next month.
The next tropical cyclone that will enter the country will be named “Kanor.”
In a separate interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Meno Mendoza said that as of 4am, the LPA was spotted some 500 km east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (8.8N 131.3E).
However, it is not expected to intensify intoa tropical depression as it is still projected to bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Western and Central Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.
He added that due to the trough of extended cloudiness of the LPA, Metro Manila and the regions of Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
He added the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Mendoza noted that no gale warning was issued so sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft.
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to north over Mindanao.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
