Rainy Friday Still Due to LPA
(PNA) — Cloudy and rainy weather will continue to prevail in most parts of the country on Friday because of the presence of a low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
In an interview, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather forecaster Jaime Bordales said that most parts of the Visayas and Northern Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rains until because of the weather disturbance.
He noted that Metro Manila and Regions of Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan), will also have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains due to the LPA’s cloud bands that extend to these areas.
He said the rest of country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with possible isolated rains because of localized thunderstorms.
Bordales said that as of 4 a.m., the LPA was spotted in 110 km south of Coron, Palawan (11.0ºN 120.5ºE).
Bordales said the weather disturbance still has a slim chance to become a tropical depression.
He said that if the LPA does not dissipate in the next few hours, it will likely exit the country’s landmass via Palawan Saturday.
“May dalawang scenario kasi na ipinapakita ang mga numerical models, posibleng matunaw ito habang nasa loob ng PAR o lalabas ng Philippine landmass sa Sabado (Based on numerical models there is two scenarios the LPA may dissipate while still inside the PAR or may exit the Philippine landmass on Saturday),” he told the Philippines News Agency (PNA).
“Once matunaw na ito (LPA) o lumabas na ng ating bansa, inaasahan na gaganda na rin ang panahon sa Visayas at Mindanao at maging sa iba’t-ibang parte ng Luzon kasama na ang Metro Manila (Once the LPA dissipate or exit theb country expect gradual weather improvement in Visayas and Mindanao as well in parts of Luzon including Metro Manila),” he added.
In an earlier interview, PAGASA weather forecaster FernandoCada said it is likely that the country will continue to be storm-free for the rest of the month.
“Malaki ang posibilidad na wala ng bagyo na tatama sa ating bansa ngayong buwan (There is high chance that no tropical cyclone to develop until the end of the month),” he noted.
However, Cada said PAGASA expects three to four cyclones to visit the country this September.
The next tropical cyclone that will enter the country will be named “Kanor.”
In its advisory, PAGASA said light to moderate winds blowing from the southeast to northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the southwest to southeast over Mindanao.
The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be slight to moderate.
PAGASA also not issued gale warning as the sea travel will be safe for fisherfolk and small seacraft. (PNA) FPV/CLTC
