Radaza: The Issue on Diaper Ad Has Nothing to Do with Politics
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza clarified that her administration’s strong opposition against the spoof of the Battle of Mactan in a diaper commercial is not a political maneuvering.
Radaza said the issue was raised when the country was celebrating the Araw ng Kagitingan yesterday, and being a resident of the island where Lapu-Lapu fought against the foreign invaders, she finds the EQ commercial depicting a distorted history a “grave insult.”
“That is why, as the duly elected leader of this city once led by Datu Lapu Lapu, I find the EQ advertisement aired on national television a grave insult to the Oponganons and to the Filipinos. Distorting history and making the Battle of Mactan look funny on TV is a lame attempt to promote a product”, Radaza said in a statement. The mayor, who is
running for reelection unopposed, said that while they are promoting their history for the people to appreciate it, this TV advertisement is destroying it through such “mockery.”
Radaza has asked the EQ owners to: “make a public apology” and “immediately pull out” said ad.
