R.O.X. presents the Cebu National Bouldering Competition
Last May 25 and 26, 50 climbers from different parts of the country gathered in Cebu to compete for R.O.X. Zero Gravity: National Bouldering Competition in The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu and earn a spot in the Philippine National Climbing Team.
Manila, Tacloban, Cagayan De Oro, Davao City, Iligan, Gingoog, and Cebu climbers were challenged mentally, physically, and emotionally as each are given 5 minutes to solve the route problem per wall given by the route setters. The climber who was able to finish or topped out more walls with less attempts wins.
15-year-old Cebuano climber, JJ Suzon beat Manila climbers Niknok Blancaflor and Alex Espina for the Men’s division while a familiar person in the climbing competitions, Ia lapid of Manila, is the top climber for the women’s division followed by Cagayan De Oro’s Fritz Wong and Cebu ‘s Nikki Cuna.
The competition is an open category and follows the International Federation of Sports Climbing (IFSC) regulations. The youngest competitor for this leg is 10-year-old Janssen Tende of Tacloban who’s father was also a fellow competitor.
This event is made possible by the Ayala Center Cebu, Cebu Parklane International Hotel, Gatorade, Mountain Hardwear, Black Diamond, Sea to Summit, Real X Gear, Habagat Outdoor Inc., Local Crag, TGI Fridays, Dispatch Magazine, and RCTV. This competition is sanctioned by Sports Climbing Association of the Philippines (SCAPI).
